My son gave me an old laptop. It had some broken pieces which my son removed - namely, the display and the optical drive. Also, the keyboard doesn't respond. But otherwise the laptop is fully functional. I thought it would make a local webserver for testing and developing purposes. I plugged in an external display and usb-keyboard. Booting a linux-installer from a flash drive worked, so now I have Ubuntu server being installed.
