This makes me want to finish my outdoor fireplace. So many projects, lol.
Hehe =) Earlier this week I had a bit too much work. Today already in the morning I felt that now when I have a free day at home, I won't be working with any of the projects at home, as I need a full day of just recharging. So it has been music, food, a fire at the yard, and sauna. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel like continuing any of the many projects...
But, speaking of this fireplace in the picture - this one is not much of a construction, just natural stones set in a roundish shape. Although some of them are specially arranged so that I can place a wide frying pan or the smoking box on top of the stones, using the fireplace for outdoor cooking.
I have an old truck rim that I want to set out for the central fire-pit, so that it will be a little easier to clean out than just a hole in the ground, and more rigid. Then I want to build a stone and mortar oven/stove thing over half of it, such that I have a low ledge to set a pot on to keep it warm, and then a short chimney that I can set a pot on top of to cook in. Then I want to split a couple of logs and make a couple of benches, kind on in a 90 degree V shape facing the open side of the fire pit.
Not that I have any friends over ever, but I guess it would be nice to have an extra seat if it were ever needed, hehe.
That's a good design idea! And yes - benches are good to have, even if it would be 99.9% of time one sitting alone at the fire.
Twice a year I remove the stones to clean out the layer of ashes, and then re-arrange the stones. Using and old truck rim sounds handy and clever. I think I'll need a more permanent summer kitchen, with a roof to protect from rain. Let's see if I get one built for the coming summer =)
Ps. I mentioned music, and now I think I need to post a few links.
Saturday morning when I opened my computer the first thing I saw was a good friend posting a link to an indie music album Juna Kainuuseen by Litku Klemetti. The record label webpage offers both digital album for sale, free streaming, and a brief info in English. The album started to play, and before I realized I was dancing on the floor, with a toothbrush in my mouth.
Hehe, again this shows that I haven't been reading music blogs nor magazines, as today I googled around and found that the band won 'the newcomer of the year'-award of a major Finnish music magazine Soundi. Sure, couple of times had seen the name 'Litku Klemetti', but never before had I listened to their music, so I'm very happy that my friend introduced the album for me. I read the album 'Juna Kainuuseen' is going to get a vinyl release in April - looking forward to that =)
Also, this definitely goes onto the list of bands I need to see live. I mean, balalaika blasted like this - yes please!
