I spent most of the day thinking of how to best simulate the details of crop growth in Ancient Savo. Each day the crops grow, affected by the weather, the soil fertility and other factors. And as they grow, they consume fertility, wearing down the soil. So, after a few years you need to slash and burn a new plot which will be fertilized by the ashes. Yes, the basic idea is simple, but I spent several hours thinking if it would be better to run some aspects of the simulation on yearly basis (like, decreasing soil fertility once, when the crops are harvested), or on a daily basis (and, if simulated on a daily basis, then what would be the range or the measurement unit of the variables?) Well, it might be better to simulate all the details each day. But next I need to do a lot of test runs to see if it works as intended, and if the variables can be adjusted to get a balanced outcome, or if running the tests will reveal that my approach won't work...
